Excursion and Cultural Experience

After scientific conference, the participants of SLIM2017 could enjoy special activity that the organizer specifically organized in order to give the participants unforgettable experiences of Thailand, such as food industry visit, Thai agricultural and cultural experiences, e.g. “Loy Krathong Festival”.

“Loy Krathong” is a nationwide festival and will be celebrated throughout Thailand on the full moon of the 12th month of the traditional lunar calendar (full moon in November for western calendar).  Fortunately, this year (2017), Loy Krathong Festival will be on Friday November 3rd, the last day for SLIM2017!!! Therefore, all participants could enjoy this traditional festival after hard working in previous scientific session.

“Loy” means “float”, and a “krathong” is a special Thai floating sculpture particular to the festival.  The traditional krathong is made from a cross-section of a banana tree trunk, which is then elaborately decorated with folded banana leaves and flowers in intricate towering designs. Today the banana trunk and bread krathongs are obviously eco-friendly, so better choices for your participation.  The main purpose of this festival is to pay respect to the “Goddess of the Water” showing gratitude on plentiful use of water and ask for forgiveness in the ensuing pollution.  Floating the beautiful Krathong away, which is the key activity in Loy Krathong, also refers to flying away misfortune and bad things in the past and asking for good luck in the future.

Celebrating Loy Krathong will create lasting memories of your wonderful trip to Thailand and will be a meaningful and memorable highlight of your participation of SLIM2017 in Thailand.  The cool weather during this time of the year also makes it a wonderful time to explore the many other wonders of Thailand. Looking forward to welcome all participants to join this wonderful activity in Thailand soon.
